Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Please remember in prayer our Jewish sisters and brothers - our elder siblings in the faith - who continue to face anti-Semitism in our country and around the world today, and whose lives and stories have been permanently damaged because of the violence that was done to the Jewish people.
God, make us constantly vigilant so that we can see injustice and eradicate it in our midst. Forgive us for our continuing silence in the face of atrocities. We know we are complicit in injustice when we don’t speak out against it at every level, and we ask for your mercy. Be with those whose lives are torn apart by the very injustice we ignore, especially the Jewish people. Amen.

This is a serious problem that needs to be fixed
When looking for teaching on abortion in the bible, we don’t need to look any futher than the pithy Wisdom book, Proverbs. Proverbs 31:8-9 teaches us:
Happy Birthday to the Swiss Guard!
On today’s date in 1506, the personal bodyguards to the Holy Father first arrived at the Vatican from Switzerland.
The Pontifical Swiss Guard is the de facto military of the Holy See, and is responsible for the security of the Apostolic Palace and the safety of the Pope. Recruits are all Catholic, single males of Swiss citizenship who have received basic training with the Swiss military.
January is poverty awareness month.

Only in God do we fine newness and truth. When we look to God to effect conversion in our lives, we cannot be disappointed. That’s our problem every year. We try to change ourselves to be better in the eyes of society, instead of turning ourselves over to God to be changed into something pleasing in the eyes of the Lord.
So what does God require of us in the new year? We don’t need to look any further than the Scriptures.
Glory be to God in the highest! Ezekiel sees the glory of God juxtaposed with the idols Israel erects in the temple and in the palace. What idols do we erect, to choke out God’s glory from our vision?
